Often the aspirations of many organisations to create a speak up culture, or a ‘climate of voice’, remain unfulfilled and a ‘climate of silence’ exists, where people are fearful to step up and speak out.
The discussion examines why it is hard for individuals to use their voices, and what are the organisational and psychological barriers that can prevent people from speaking up. We share our insights and practical experience of how to break down those barriers to open up conversations, create psychological safety and encourage dialogue.
