How to create a ‘Climate of Voice’ in Organisations

In this video here for Red Lion Consulting, in association with Red Lion Chambers, fellow RL Consultant Hélène Smit and myself explore how organisations can create a culture where people feel safe to speak up and use their voices. Often the aspirations of many organisations to create a speak up culture, or a ‘climate of voice’, remain unfulfilled and a ‘climate of silence’ exists, where people are fearful to step up and speak out.

The discussion examines why it is hard for individuals to use their voices, and what are the organisational and psychological barriers that can prevent people from speaking up. We share our insights and practical experience of how to break down those barriers to open up conversations, create psychological safety and encourage dialogue.
